Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon!
I am pleased to announce the 9th Kidney
Transplant Update – “A Practical Approach”, to
be held at Hotel Leela Ambience, Gurgaon, on
7th - 8th March 2026.
The Kidney Transplant Update was initiated in 2014
with the objective of creating a forum for sharing
experiences and practical insights in the
management of kidney transplant patients
through active engagement between faculty and
delegates. Over the years, we have adopted a
theme-based approach to allow focused and
in-depth discussion of specific aspects of
transplantation.
India ranks third globally in overall
transplantation activity, after the US and China.
Remarkably, India leads the world in living donor
kidney transplantation, with approximately
13,000 kidney transplants performed in 2024.
While infections are the second most common
cause of mortality among transplant recipients
worldwide, they remain the leading cause of
post-transplant morbidity and mortality in India.
The burden is amplified by the coexistence of
opportunistic and community-acquired
infections, and the unique challenges posed by
tropical infections such as tuberculosis, scrub
typhus, mucormycosis, and others—many of
which are rare in Western populations.
Theme 2026: Post-Transplant Infections
