Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

Greetings from Medanta – The Medicity, Gurgaon!

I am pleased to announce the 9th Kidney Transplant Update – “A Practical Approach”, to be held at Hotel Leela Ambience, Gurgaon, on 7th - 8th March 2026.
The Kidney Transplant Update was initiated in 2014 with the objective of creating a forum for sharing experiences and practical insights in the management of kidney transplant patients through active engagement between faculty and delegates. Over the years, we have adopted a theme-based approach to allow focused and in-depth discussion of specific aspects of transplantation.

India ranks third globally in overall transplantation activity, after the US and China. Remarkably, India leads the world in living donor kidney transplantation, with approximately 13,000 kidney transplants performed in 2024.

While infections are the second most common cause of mortality among transplant recipients worldwide, they remain the leading cause of post-transplant morbidity and mortality in India. The burden is amplified by the coexistence of opportunistic and community-acquired infections, and the unique challenges posed by tropical infections such as tuberculosis, scrub typhus, mucormycosis, and others—many of which are rare in Western populations.

Theme 2026: Post-Transplant Infections

This year’s meeting will bring together leading national and international experts to address these crucial issues, share the latest evidence, and discuss practical approaches to prevention, diagnosis, and management.

Distinguished Faculty:

1. Dr. Camille N. Kotton – Secretary, The Transplantation Society (TTS); Transplant Infectious Disease Physician, Massachusetts General Hospital & Harvard Medical School. Lead author of CMV and BKV transplant guidelines.

2. Dr. Emily Blumberg – Professor of Medicine and Director, Transplant Infectious Diseases, University of Pennsylvania; Past President, American Society of Transplantation.

3. Prof. V. Ram Subramanian – Infectious Disease Specialist, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai; extensive research in transplant infections.

4. Dr. Rajiv Soman – Infectious Disease Physician, noted for work on fungal infections.

5. Prof. Pricilla Rupali – Professor, Infectious Diseases, Christian Medical College, Vellore.

6. Prof. N. Gopalkrishnan – Renowned Nephrologist, with significant contributions in infection-related nephrology.

The meeting will commence with lunch at 2:00 PM on 7th March and conclude by 2:00 PM on 8th March, enabling our busy nephrology colleagues to attend with minimal disruption to their schedules—while greatly enriching their clinical practice.

Case Submissions:

We invite you to submit interesting and challenging transplant infection cases. Selected cases will be presented during the meeting for discussion with the expert panel. Presenters of selected cases will receive complimentary registration and accommodation. Please email your cases to drshyambansal@gmail.com
